NaNoWriMo 2012 – Day 9 Overview

For those of you who are new to following me on my blog here, welcome!!  Let me take a moment to briefly describe what Aurorae Rising is about and then I’ll jump into my actual progress so far.

Aurorae Rising is an adventure novel about an errand boy who is charged with the strangest delivery of his life – escorting a sealed document on a cross-country dirigible race to a neighboring land.”

NaNoWriMo suggests a daily average of 1,667 words towards the ultimate goal of 50,000 words during the month of November. I’ve got my own goals this year so keep reading to receive an update on how my work-in-progress this year is going!

My Target Project Goal: 15,003 / 50,000

Actual Word Count: 18,080 / 50,000

Words Written Today: 2,008

Hours Today: 2

For those that are interested in stats, I’m using Svenia Liv’s lovely Excel spreadsheet to keep track of all the numbers.

Day 9:

Today was redeemed as a productive day.  Another 6am morning call and in 45 minutes, I averaged my 750-ish word count (about normal for me, in NaNo speed).  I’m still using the Write or Die software but Scrivener’s been an absolute dream for jumping around in the plot.  I wrote the final scene of the novel today.  Then, during a 30-minute period before work started, I typed up another 1k of words that takes place roughly 75% of the way through the novel.

Scrivener lets me plot and write to my heart’s content without getting in the way.  I am a bit of an erratic writer like that.  There’s always something you can write — if you’re stuck with one chapter, go write a different one!

To my fellow Wrimos and to those of you participating in #writemotivation and NaNo.  Take heart.  One week down, three to go!

Tonight, I’m taking a break off from writing (for an hour or two) to support the amazingly talented artist, Liz Dorman, who will be showcasing a new series of art prints over at the Old Orchard Gallery (Webster Groves, MO) as part of FALL FUSION: Mixed Media Event.

Updates again tomorrow!
