NaNoWriMo 2012 – Day 10 Overview

For those of you who are new to following me on my blog here, welcome!!  Let me take a moment to briefly describe what Aurorae Rising is about and then I’ll jump into my actual progress so far.

Aurorae Rising is an adventure novel about an errand boy who is charged with the strangest delivery of his life – escorting a sealed document on a cross-country dirigible race to a neighboring land.”

NaNoWriMo suggests a daily average of 1,667 words towards the ultimate goal of 50,000 words during the month of November. I’ve got my own goals this year so keep reading to receive an update on how my work-in-progress this year is going!

My Target Project Goal: 16,667 / 50,000

Actual Word Count: 20.080 / 50,000

Words Written Today: 2,000

Hours Today: 1.5

For those that are interested in stats, I’m using Svenia Liv’s lovely Excel spreadsheet to keep track of all the numbers.

This comes out to 4% of the novel written today.  In terms of page numbers, rounding at about 250 words to a double-spaced page, this is roughly 8 pages of new material.

Day 10:

Today was highly productive.  I knocked out my words for the day early in the morning and spent some time updating my clips here at LMB.com.  I also finally got my desk cleared off of several months’ worth of paperwork that had been piling up.  I also moved some books up to the study.  I have a tendency to let things “sit” instead of dealing with them right away.

I worked on the first chapter of the novel and the story took a funny twist that ended up leading perfectly into a later scene I’d already written.  It’s funny how sometimes you can go off your original plan and it still turns out okay in the end.

Tonight was a special staff preview event for the newly renovated Central Library in downtown St. Louis.  My husband and I invited my parents along for the festivities.  It’ll be a privilege for anyone who gets to work in that building.  Absolutely beautiful!

Tomorrow it’s back to writing again. Peace.
