For those of you curious, or new to this blog, here’s the scoop on my 2012 NaNoWriMo project and my first WIN!!
Audience: Young Adult/Adult
Aurorae Rising is set in the universe of my Borderland stories but this November I started with a fresh outline and brand-new writing from pg. 1 so by this definition, I still qualify as a traditional NaNo participant. The events in this novel take place before the 2009-2011 screenplay and short stories that I wrote set in this world. The original concept for Borderland was created as part of a NaNoWriMo attempt in 2008.
“In a post-apocalyptic dystopia, mankind lives in isolated communities which compete for resources and survival. A brilliant scientist has tipped the balance in one city’s favor with the invention of designer drugs that alter genetics in the same generation. He is the most sought-after man in the world and there are those who would kill for his technology.
A common delivery boy is hired for the most important mission of his life — escorting this scientist on a dirigible voyage over hostile terrain to a neighboring community where an international science convention will be held. Glory, fame, and a brighter future awaits the winners, if they can survive the journey and the assassins on board.”
December 2012 Update: Aurorae Rising is considered the first “official” canon novel in the Borderland universe. I completed my 1st draft of Aurorae Rising on November 30th, 2012 with a total word count of 50,061.
October 2013 Update: As of this fall, Aurorae Rising is currently being workshopped by some tough critique group partners 😉 in preparation for a major second draft.
I am looking forward to getting back to writing about the adventures of the crew and passengers on the Aurorae, but right now, I’m excited about dusting an older project off the shelves and making of it what I can. Thanks to all the votes and input from the ladies of the Wordsmith Studio who helped me select which NaNoWriMo project deserved a second chance!
